Sorry this comment is coming so long after your entry but I just found your blog and love it. I live in Savannah and love exploring both locally and the most out of the way places I can find, so I will be a frequent visitor here. I can't wait to continue reading all the past blogs. I hope I am not too late and you have already made it here - if so hope you did visit Mrs. Wilkes - it is always a great experience, but I also hope that you got waylaid and missed Lady and Sons - I would hate that you might think that is typical of the wonderful choices we have here for "southern food" - some are funky and some just typical mom and pop places, but in any case - all way above what you would get from the Lady.
I confess that we're in no rush to visit Lady & Sons. There are restaurants, and then there are places where you spend a lot of money just to say that you've eaten where everybody else has.
We had intended to have lunch at Mrs. Wilkes the weekend of Dec. 10, but Marie asked if we could change plans, leave earlier that day, and have lunch on SSI instead. The next trip to the island, she's going solo (in a week!) and I don't believe that she has plans to stop in Savannah, so it'll probably be May or June before we target another place there.
That said, as mentioned in the first couple of paragraphs, we feel that we have many, many more years of driving through Savannah ahead of us, and only one or at best two more of driving through Macon or Lumber City, etc. I can't wait to experience Savannah with greater depth, but the practical side of me wants to finish with the central Georgia places that we'll leave behind should we move.
