You have to know what to order at the Grit. They have a lot of mediocre items on the menu.

Whatever their daily special 'feast' is is probably going to be the best. It's more expensive but is enough food for two. I usually order a veggie plate off of the board. The Golden Bowl (if you get cheese, veggies, and yeast gravy) is great. The noodle bowl is great, the cornbread is fantastic, and the cake (my favorite is caramel brown sugar, but I've never been dissatisfied with any) is wonderful. The veggie chili cheese dog is also great, even though the dog itself isn't anything special; their chili is just really, really good. And the grilled cheese is amazing.

Also, if anything comes with chips, sub them out for something else. It costs extra, but is totally worth it. They're bad.

Wanted to let you know, we referenced your article on The Grit Facebook Page. Thank you.

While the staple is good and basic, the creative-ier stuff is definitely worth stepping outside the box for.

We've had a ton of great feedback on the new sandwiches... thanks for adding yours to the list.

(also, be sure to let us know when you post about us in the future.)

Small Golden Bowl with yeast gravy, grilled cheese, and coffee.(The gravy is their special thing.)
Peanut-butter pie, if they have it, for dessert.

Want meaty? Try the Grit's Seitan "Philly" Cheesesteak and it'll be dripping all down your chin! Better yet, the Tofu Reuben...beats fatty corned beef any day.

Want tasty? Mac n' cheese please! or try any three veggies and you'll get that down home flavor without the down home lard or the down home coronary!

Want your sweet tooth soothed? Go for the Chocolate Pecan pie, Key Lime, Caramel Sugar cake, or any of the cream cakes. Amazing!

The Grit is like a great antique shop: always filled with junk but mixed in are some priceless treasures.

Be adventurous, Gazelle Man!
